Each year the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference hosts a Community Service Project.  The conference consists of eight schools:

Westfield State College

Bridgewater State College

Worcester State College

Fitchburg State College

Framingham State College

Salem State College

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts

Massachusetts Maritime Academy

In 2007 students visited with residents of a nursing home in Cape Cod and in 2008 they collected supplies and shipped them to US troops serving in Iraq.

This past fall the representatives from each school met at Fitchburg State College to present their school’s SAAC community service project idea.  In the end each school voted and the winning school has the honor of hosting the MASCAC SAAC Community Service Project in the spring.

Westfield State College is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the 2009 MASCAC SAAC Community Service Project.

MASCAC SAAC COMMUNITY

SERVICE PROJECT

Westfield State College is inviting 40 kids to participate from surrounding Elementary and Middle Schools to our field day April 5, 2009.

(First Come – First Serve)

Westfield State College will also be inviting 40 kids from the Unified Sports Program.

http://www.unifiedsportsprogram.com/index.htm

This makes 80 total participants.  Participants will be grouped together with corresponding ages.  Each group will rotate together throughout the day.

There will be six different stations emphasizing different sports through drills and scrimmages.  There will be a small prize for the winners.

We want to highlight sportsmanship, competition and the hard work that it takes to build skills within each sport.  At each station there will be drills that correspond to that sport and some stations will include a scrimmage.

We hope that in the end they will not only learn to work together as a team but also recognize that having friends who are different is a positive thing.
